CAPE DORSET PRINTS

The West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative in Cape Dorset has earned a worldwide reputation for the quality and originality of limited edition prints made by its member artists. Inuit printmaking began in the late 1950’s when James Houston, an artist from Toronto, introduced the Inuit to relief printmaking. Thereafter, Inuit printmaking flourished leading to the development of the cooperative’s printmaking studio – Kinngait Studios. Kinngait Studios is the longest continuous running print studio in Canada. Each year the studio releases a new Cape Dorset prints collection that showcases Canadian Inuit art.
